Christmas Outfits

Just browsing online looking for pieces I can create outfits with several times for any such meals/parties etc. My style is leaning towards the well cut, organic silky cotton basics such as a Wang or Cos as it's the style I wear most and feel totally comfortable with. Think Phoebe Philo, won best Designer, at the BFA this week, simple if any make up, gorgeous shiny hair and a simply yet amazingly stylish black jumpsuit. Thats my kind of dressing. Rather effortless Parisian elegance style even though it takes years and years to master.

I really like this mens t-shirt @ UO and guess who it is.... the only Max Rogers :)

These are so gorgeous they remind me of the Chloe brand so much, I really want them! But I need to buy 'practical' or in other words flat shoes because I keep only looking and buying heels!!!!!!

It was also either this or this or a complete Jewel tone Velvet, and I still can't decide. I like both. I'm thinking of getting both, but lets be decisive here. I'm thinking the left for more wearability but the right is so exciting and thats my hair colour and style I have most frequent. It's times like this I wish I had readers so I could get opinions! I'm probs going to go with the right, even though I love the top part on the left, argh!

Oh hi me (thats a joke btw)

I 'adore this colour from UO! The dress on the right is from Topshop I really love the cut outs, scary they may look but they would be amazingly flattering on the figure. It's sold out in my size...

Levi's Batwing Logo Tee

Really into logo tees! the baggier the better... of course I would wear it with a simple leg, classic shoe and neat hair to balance the over sizedness. I'm not going down the hobo, clashing prints look again anytime soon!

Docs are something my father has been trying to make me wear since birth. I've always thought they were ugly because I was brought up with the Sex Pistols so I saw that ugly grim face and it scared me... however I now want to invest in a pair, I've always loved Cherry Red! Just like my dad!

I really want a pair of light Levis straight leg rolled up, I'm looking at mens for the cut. I bought a Levis Denim Jacket at a Vintage fair in Manchester for £20, best thing I've ever bought.

This colour:

Renewal Levi's 501® Turn Up Short

Looking for the perfect Sailor tee just like Coco

And authentic brogues that will last.

Phoenix - 1901 (Leeds Festival 2010)

By the time Phoenix had come on stage I just remember feeling a cross physical and metal tiredness, homesickness of that I didn't want to leave the festival (this was the last band of the night) and a very large hangover as I'd been drinking since the early hours of the morning, discounting the rest of the weekend!

At the same time they were on, so were Guns and  who of course I really wanted to see! But the girls who I met there, one of them is my cousins girlfriend and we're tent neighbours :D, really wanted to see this band Phoenix so I stayed, not obv going on my own and I couldn't get in contact with my friends who I was sharing a tent with. I was really surprised at how good Phoenix were! Because that last day was such a haze, I've only just remembered the bands name, I took a wild guess, and I really like them. I now understand why one of my friends meets them all the time whenever they do signings!

I did manage to see Guns and Roses also because the girls we're so lovely and knew how much I wanted to see them, however I only got to hear Sweet Child Of Mine back at the tent with my Malibu, Vodka and Pepsi (I don't recommend, especially glugged through a random Scottish lads beer bong - pause for innuendo), freezing cold sat on the grass. I miss Leeds and of course Gennie, Steph and Hannah! x

UCA!

UCA (BA Fashion Journalism) have emailed me about my application with a short creative writing brief to decipher whether or not they want to offer me and interview! The brief is actually really imaginative, theres lots you can do with it even though it's max 400 words.

Brief title:

'On a desert island, the pigeon post will bring only one publication each month. Which one would you choose and why?'

However it does pose a dilemma, do I go all Fashionista or show my cultural, political side off with my interest in newspapers? I read so many of both it's going to be a struggle choosing. 'We are looking at these pieces for creativity, stylistic flair, written language competence and industry awareness.'

What I do like to read often is the Sunday times, the Metro every morning, ELLE Uk, US Vogue, 10 magazine, Phoenix and well mainly ELLE Uk as I've been reading it for the past 4 years. Hmmm I'm very excited to begin writing it!

The Drums @ Manchester

The typical New Yorker band The Drums are not as typical as they might appear. There’s an unusual mix of beach tunes, extreme preppy pop and that better side of the 80’s. I’ll have you know decent pop is hard to come by that’s not in the form of Britney Spears. (Questionable) I really got into the Drums at the start of 2010 and have so far seen them twice!!! It was a warm festival evening when we first met, in Leeds to be exact. When I heard their effervescent notes I bounced to the stage. Our second date was a wonderful Monday night. Safe to say it was one of the best gigs I have ever been too. They played their usual set which I’m now familiar with including ‘Lets go Surfing’! Their iconic song that parachuted them into the hipster world. It’s the song that made me fall in love with them and the one song that left me and half of Leeds festival heartbroken when they didn’t play it.

In all my gigging/festival experiences I have never seen sober crowd go so manic! I have seen bands such as the Courteeners, Arctic Monkeys even the Jonas Brothers. None of them were as high spirited than when at the Drums, perhaps the Jonas Brothers, but they’re practically Disney itself so what do you expect. To not be squished at the barrier by drunken adults for once or being leant on before a mosh pit breaks loose then I’m then carried over the barrier to safety, true story, Blink 182, was a welcome change. Perhaps it was because everyone was underage and the adults remained at the back, as they do, or perhaps it’s their poppy melodies casting a Florida charm over us, subliminally telling us that we don’t have to be intoxicated to enjoy music? I wasn't covered in any beer/water/human fluid which was a lovely surprise but the best part was catching, the lead, Johnny's eye as he sang away. He has a habit of focusing on the crowd like this, it’s his thing. Girls, I’d just go for that reason alone. One of my friends swears I swooned a little but let’s not talk about that…

Seeing The Drums play twice in the space of one tour feels very personal to me. I know all of the words to most of their songs and that’s without being a religious listener or memorising the lyrics the night before their gig, don't you just hate people who do that.

They’re resting now, but they’ll be touring no doubt next festival season and when they do they’re the ones to watch, you'll not regret it.

Clothes Show 2010!!!!!!!

OMG I had the best of times at the Clothes Show I loved every minute of it! Jessica and I really enjoyed ourselves this year and had so much fun. I only had my Blackberry to take the most blurry photographs of the Show in world but if you follow me on twitter, @sammeh, I did a through running commentary as best as I could. I stopped posting what photos I took to the #clothesshow feed because I didn't want to spoil it for anyone going as we were at the first day!

Guess who!! It's Mark and Lauren on the runway from The Only Way is Essex!! Mark wasn't so ballsy on stage but I can assure you he's just as fit in real life. Laurens bum looked amazing in this dress, styled by Alexis Knox - @alexisknox

We had floor seats to see the show, second from the back but I figured a girls got to start somewhere, so many half naked male models running right past me I literally froze!

I will photo my luxuries I bought later but I must share them with you now! I bought loads this year the clothes have really upped their game because usually I buy one thing right at the very end just so I can go home with something! The little indian stores that are usually filled with the everyday market stall dresses were actually really cute this year, maybe its the whole vintage fluro vibe going to my head I don't know I'm talking one or two here in each stall which is still better than none! Saying so, I came away with the cutest black V cut lace dress which will look great against my pale completion and as it comes in at the waist, a lady's best part, also hiding my thighs, PERFECTTTTT. The final selling point for me was the v cut neckline because so many dresses are pulled in a the waist but cover both neck area and arms because their made for the busty lady which unfortunately I run low on stockage there, so I really love to show my décolletage :D

I bought a top up of Fake Bake lotion, the new Crakle BarryM nail polish which I couldn't help but overlay onto my Paradoxal Chanel there and then woowoo! It's amazing find it buy it now. Oh some new Henry Holland for Pretty Polly garter tights with the little house included as I put a hole in my other ones ): which they threw in some free Henry Holland socks that are grey, with imprinted gold chains which I'm wearing now :) AND thank you so much to my good friend Jessica who at this point had to lend me some money because I took a limited amount only for a reason and failed, I got to buy an amazing LA red and white American Jock jacket!!!!!!! It's the perfect style and I've wanted one from since I can remember, my mum says because of watching Buffy and loving Marty McFly in Back to the Future 2... but I have one now which I'll keep forever as it's faux leather sleeves so once worn in will look even better! You might think, is that all, but we also got our hair and face did at Lee Staford and Rimmel which was such an experience. @ Rimmel they even took a photo of us which I will scan in soon :) such a good day overall. I almost forgot, I also bought a pair of geek glasses and I don't care what I have said in the past I've wanted a pair for ages and I love them!

A blogger even stopped to give me one of her print outs to see if I wanted to be considered the face of her clothing range, I was immensely flattered because this has never happened before, common it may be it made me feel good about myself especially with my hair and make up I finally felt part of something, that something being stylish and urbanely on trend, (I wanted to say original but it's not but it is at the same time)

After! This you many note is called the current bun my friends, Jessica had the most adorable Fishtail plait. We we're addicted to red lippy allllll day

There was a very attractive model in the show with curly hair, think Justin Bobby/topless Parisian guy named Max Rogers @max_rogers

Dear Max, if you reading this feel free to add me, BB Pin: 214CE530 honestly, I don't mind. x

Daria DVD Ad/Trailer

I always remember rushing to sit in front of my tv when I heard the heavy guitar tones of the intro! I can't remember how old I was but it started in 1997 and I was 4 then so older than that. Because of the facebook trend I recently spoke I have to ask myself is it what we watch and see around shape who we are and our interests today? Looking back at just two programs not only am I greatly interested in illustration, rock music, and big hair such as Daria's. I also have lots of issues with people and my sense of humour is deeply sarcastic and complex, if I say so myself. It's so funny and its very nice to actually relate to something instead of all the crap thats on now a days *cough* SKINS

'alrigggght :D' this is my favourite part!!!!

GO AND BUY THIS NOWWWWWW

Beavis and Butt-head in Foreign Exchange

I used to watch this was I was young and it showed late at night, hmm thats why I can't sleep, I loved it but being so young I never understood the humour. Looking back I love all the music previewed and the illustration style, especially the colours. On facebook as much as I dislike it there is a NSPCC trend happening where we each have to change our profile photos in to a cartoon we remember in our childhoods. I was stuck between Miffy and Daria but after some mind jogging youtubing I think the right choice is obvious. How I missed Daria! Doing so allowed me to find out that Daria is no available on DVD and has moved to the top of my Christmas list!

Photography Studio Lighting Un-edited

Victoria - November 26th, all images taken by myself Samantha Goodwin

Here I was practising the different effects I could create in the studio, mainly using on spot light with no umbrella, soft box etc. It worked really well, Victoria is such a good model to use. Because I photograph her most of the time shes so giving she even offers to help me with the equipment! So after time we both feel comfortable in the studio and I can tell her exactly how to stand, how to dress down to the expression for the photos! I'm so grateful :D shes a good friend!

These images are un-edited but I really wanted to share a couple, as there are quite a few to choose from, I think represent it well. I did upper body shots and portraits and used the single light in different positions and heights for the different effects. Again I am very please with my photos taken as I am trying to hard to improve my actual Photographing skills so it's less to edit and better quality. Oh I also sat down on a stool taking these for the angles (besides the portraits) but used a tripod throughout this photoshoot! I'd never used one before for a shoot and it really helped and they're so easy to use!

Trip to London

This is a female reindeer at Convent Garden that took a very nice liking to me!

As you can see the tiny pen, and there was two of them! It was surrounded by groping hands trying to cop a feel of the magnificent reindeer. There was a lady dressed in a Santa outfit handing out some moss like thing children we're trying to feed them. When I finally squeezed in this reindeer I photographed above walked right over and began eating the wax fruit/grass thats decorating the pen! I was scared not going to lie. Then I tried to pet her and my Leeds fest wristband got stuck round her antlers, I thought I was going to loose an arm!!!!! But this is how clever they are, she tugged, I panicked, she bowed her head to set it free, I was amazed. Then even though I didn't have any of the moss or eaten anything previously she wouldn't leave me, sniffing at me. So I took photos like the top image but every time I tried she kept kissing the camera! Then I asked and American guy who was rudely shoving the green thing at her, what it was and he said Moss. While I asked she licked me! Which was so cute and very wet.. I was fascinated because when other people tried to pet or feed her she sharply turned her head. I felt at ease even though there was so many people around it didn't feel like there was, it was so rewarding :) then she was sort of grunting at me like proper breathing in my face over and over so I imagine this was her saying hello, so I did some form of breathy squeal back :)

This is Drury Lane where me and my mum both had a bit of an epiphany and decided to re create the iconic Beatles image, sweeeeeeet

Some buildings on Drury Lane!

We we're in London this time for London College of Fashion open day talks on Fashion Journalism and Fashion PR. I have already applied to the Journalism course but the PR one looks more fitting. Even though I have applied to UCAS I am thinking of doing an Art Foundation to really allow myself to be creative for a year, in Manchester, the city I love, have a good progression and decide where I want to go, also re access my options. There are some big changes happening in the world of work and the economy I have a gut feeling there will be a variety of options to take in education. I am set on University life though especially in London. My mum and I have had plentiful trips to London this year, it was also my first time to visit London in 2010 too so it's been so exciting. I'd say we've been around five times and I think this was the last trip so far. We went as a whole family to see the sights and the rest were Uni visits to UCA, CSM and LCF. I have good feel of London now and find is so easy to navigate around!

We also visited a very old Patisserie Maison Bertaux in Soho to visit Noel Fieldings exhibition because, you know kinda loved him since I was 12! Met Tania the owner, who is the most wonderful women e v e r, drank so many cups of tea, and eaten far to many cakes. It was so cool, every time we go to London we make a visit, a nice home away from home vibe. Noels exhibit is on till the 5th of Jan next year 2011 so go go go! Photos soon :)

COCO AVANT CHANEL

and my French stops there. I have been watching this film over and over for the past few days, I love not only that it's in French but just how much it allows you to understand Coco and the brand itself Chanel. I have also noticed at how much I love Chanel, since watching the film I've just found advert clippings all over my room that I have saved and only just noticed how proudly my Chanel carrier bag I got with my Paradoxal nail paint hangs on my wardrobe. I think I'm a closet Chanel addict, but aren't we all.

Manchester Protest #demo2010

image from tumblr @pallypalson

Manchester Student Protest

If I had to pick between Labour, Lib Dem or Conservatives, I would choose the latter. Not just because it's who my parents have always voted for but because I, 17 year old and middle classed, do agree actually with a lot of their policies. This does not go down well amongst my friends...

We’ve all heard about the student protests, I really want to go just to satisfy my wondering curiosity. Some say going will be hypocritical; it’s not in the slightest. I can't even vote yet, and neither can they.

I can’t help compare the London protests to the one in Manchester going on today. I can’t help but feel embarrassed by the unnecessary, feral violence. I understand its to be noticed, to make a stand but seriously, hitting Police officers? Vandalising? Urinating on Winston Churchill? It’s so childish and disrespectful. Why would anyone want to give someone like that, with no clear mental capacity, a place at University? Is this evidence proving that anyone can blag a Personal Statement?

I do have a fair awareness that the Conservatives have to make these cuts in order to help the country improve its declined stability. It annoys me when people disregard Maggie Thatcher as if she did nothing for the country. Yeah, she went a little off the rails towards the end, but wouldn't you with that hair? And it’s usually college drop outs the ones sitting at home watching Jeremy Kyle who complain. They don’t realise some people are neglected and have no choice but to live that lifestyle. They’re the last ones to refuse the help offered to them such as college expenses, health, work load but the first ones to complain about the rising fees, they’re probably not even going to University anyway and if they did, would there be any point? Would they just be taking up a valuable slot instead of someone else if they were to just drop out anyways?

Don't get me started on EMA payments and bonuses. I know so many people who now have wealthy gym memberships they never use thanks to their very generous £100 bonus. I know half of which at college who get the full £30 and bus fare/food money from their parents regardless. Why should they spend their weekend money? The shambolic excuse 'Well I only get my payment if I come in everyday...' I come in every day. Sometimes I don’t particularly want to. Where’s my incentive? There are people who respect their funded education then there are those who just need a new pair of heels to go with their new dress.

As I write this, I can go home from college now or I could go to Manchester. I’ve been monitoring the protest live feed on MENMEDIA.com and it looks pretty sparse. Bury had no complaints, that’s great, but it does pose the question, was there any point? Manchester has already had two arrests and it will probably get worse. Is there any point? Not in the slightest, if we’re sensible it’s ignored and if we’re violent all students and those who actually want a good education are tainted with that barbaric nature. We want good futures and stable careers, not Tesco points and Jeremy Kyle - that’s our point!
