Winner MA_11: Matteo Molinari

London College of Fashion: MA 2011 logo

Well done to Matteo Molinari for
winning collection of the year MA_11!

Matteo is from Italy and uses his knowledge, skill and technique when creating well tailored menswear - for his MA_11 @ LCF collection, he contrasted this with more rural techniques; such as hand crafted pieces (see collar on right)

Watch his interview here - he looks like such a lovely, talented, hardworking guy!

LCF MA '11 Fashion show

London College of Fashion: MA 2011 logo
I'm excited to watch the live feed of the MA's runway show tonight @ 8pm, 6 hours to go!

It's streaming on their webby here

The designer I recognise is Yao Xiao, I had previewed some of her collection on the LCF website in passing before hand. I've been having a gander at what the designers will be showcasing so I was excited when I clicked upon Yao!

It's the photography I adored firstly, the shoot is so great. It's very slick and professional. It totally stands out from ordinary look books! The collection is inspired by "Otaku" which means group of nerds. There is knitwear and overall is a very wearable collection. I'm drawn to casual clothing thats made well, Yao gets it. Theres a pallet of pinks, camels, whites and blacks. Perfect minimalism, perfect clothing you can throw on as you're late for college and still look like you've planned it the night before.

Theres a huge push on casual clothing thats as minimal as possible. Yao really adapts to this but explores it with texture and splashes of colour so it's not to be categorised as another minimal collection of whites and greys. There are  harems, in a jet black. I thought I'd see the back of harems but they're made for 'sloppy' days. It's the cooler take on joggers but manage to look sophisticated!

I'm yet to find a blog or a twitter, so I will keep you posted!

All the images are from the links posted, I can't wait to see the show, wish I was there in person! I'm rooting for them all but Yao, you've gotta fan right here.

Remember to watch the show tonight, 8pm, 2 February 2011 - http://www.fashion.arts.ac.uk/ma/live/

Karl Lagerfeld Interview

I'm posting a lot of videos recently because I'm using YouTube all the time. I love to search cultures like the Beats and old songs I used to listen to and create play lists. Which you can listen to here

I also subscribe to the telegraph as they post short videos which is just perfect because I don't like long ones though, I can sit through 10 minutes of YouTube goodness depending.

I have Karl Lagerfeld confidential on DVD but I found this video so intimate, I think it has something to do with Hillary Alexanders personality and warmth with her interviewee, they're her friends. I really related with Karl's feeling of always feeling lazy even though he is a genius.

As a student it is hard to understand I have no choice but to do all this work and I always want to do the best I can. With the deadlines recently met, handing in your work at the end of a project is very rewarding. I can only feel satisfied with my work if I get butterflies when I see it printed, love it and want to share it. My mum will tell me I work hard but I always go no no it's just what has to be done. And I too feel lazy that perhaps I could do better, but at the moment it's working for me. Also, Karl is late all the time but not in the rude way, but because hes so busy! I'm late all the time but usually because I'd been up the night before till about 2 am researching or working. It's nice to know people are not perfect and there are some very interesting, authentic characters out there.

Anna Calvi is the musician he is currently interested in and the video ends with Karl giving the CD of hers to Hillary. It's such a nice moment and you know he is completely genuine. I'd never doubt that for a second.

Google's art project

Amit Sood is head of art project for google who has introduced street view to selected Art museums they've worked with, 17 overall (I think).

It's such an amazing opportunity to see these works from artists such as Van Gogh! In much much close detail, magnified. Much closer to what you could ever see in real life or would be allowed.

385 artists work is available so go go go!

Thank you google

The amazing feature is that you can create your own exhibit with your favourite pieces of art work. You can comment on what you like or have found within the pieces and the send it along to your friends. I can't wait to get started!

Youth Radio: Hipster is the new Preppy

This explains everything... and it was posted in 2007... originated from ethnics. From what I have so far gathered is that it's always been around and it's basically just a mash up of different cultures. But now it's actually in the mainstream. You walk into your new look and the different 'strands' referenced in this video are to be found. The important message of the video is that 'your soul can last for ever and what not' I guess it's making me realise that it's okay to to be me and still dress on trend. A trends a trend they come and go

Hipster Documentary

So I'm up late again, my way of chilling out, all my deadlines have been met and I already have a fresh new graphics book ready to be scrawled upon. I'm googling Hipsters once again and have realised many things. One of which being, that Hipsters pretty much started in the US just like the EMOs and SCENES did. And heres us thinking we're the elite??

I've come across the term Beatnik... and after a quick google image search, it reminds me of the kids at the Foundry in the Sims URBz. It's really interesting and I want to delve more into the Beatnik world. This way I can understand that culture and compare the similarities Hipster fashion tries to re create.

The Mugler Show - Fall 2011

I'm still in awe about  Nicola Formichetti's first menswear show for Mugler this month. He found Rick Genest (Zombie Boy) on facebook and I find it amazing how technology is allowing people from different backgrounds, with different talents to have a better chance of once in a life time opportunities. The world is a huge place, in case you hadn't noticed, sometimes I fret whether or not I lead an amazing life because of the size of it all, how many other people are out there who are better than me - but thats a negative attitude and the key thing there is no one in the world is better than me because everybody is different.

At the Golden Globes (68th) I was more fascinated with what the boys were wearing, well kinda just Mr Darcy, Zac Efron, RPattz what can I say, my favourite has to be Justin Bieber in D&G Black label. Who recently bagged himself a LOVE cover for the androgynous issues. I for one will be looking out for that issue because it's the year of the Beiber and we've all got a little Bieber fever in us one way or another...

The randomly placed pop of orange was so innovative. It was a nice surprise and set the tone of the whole show and if anything, defined it by breaking out of the 'gothica, cyber dog' bracket this collection perhaps could be categorised in.

I read somewhere Mugler was famous for his scale of proportions of clothing and I for one adore these pants. I don't know why but they remind me of a really classic 90's friends episode. IN A GOOD WAY I'm also feeling 1999 Sex and the City, New Yorkers as well. It's something to do with the cut and how intriguing they are. They're smart yet casual, but so un proportioned yet it works. It's different yet I feel familiar with it. It's interesting and will make nice change to the Indie boy Chino and worse, Harem (yes, still) phase.

Most attractive model on there. It is a military inspired outfit but I'm more preoccupied with the collar of the coat with high necked white top. Is this an end to the JLS style V necks finally? Seriously... I can't take anymore chest hair on the 8am bus to college, regardless if theres snow on the ground.

The collection is so beautiful. It's appears zombiefied, Camden loving, Dark Mark wanting, but it's very wearable especially in the workplace. It will make a really nice change to the uniform of men today. I don't know what Formichetti was thinking when he billowed silks over the models heads but whatever... it's works. Perhaps it has something to do with hiding identity in the same sense women do with beauty. Another tick next to the androgynous box, women are more recently drawn to classic styles of clothing typically male such as satchels, brogues, pants, and men are fighting to become more attractive like a female whether that be their weight or simply going shopping a lot more than boys did 5 years ago. Males have weight issues too and if anything its increasing, I'm avoiding the size zero debate because if it's healthy weight loss such as going to the gym etc I believe everyone should feel healthy, it makes you feel better as a person. However I am noticing males are fighting to be skinnier than the girlfriends and I can't explain why, just now.

Interview: Danny Barnett

HOW'RE YOU TODAY?

Hungry. tired I only sleep for like five hours a night.

WHAT ARE YOU WEARING?

Well.... pumps, jeans, tee, jumper.

WHAT DID YOU DO THIS WEEKEND?

I got very, very, inappropriately drunk.

WHAT DID YOU HAVE FOR BREAKFAST THIS MORNING?

I don't eat breakfast.

WHAT DO YOU DO IN MANCHESTER?

Mainly shopping, retail therapy.

WHATS YOUR FAVOURITE STORE?

USC second floor in the Arndale - near Jack Jones. I go for the jeans. I feel buying an expensive pair of jeans if worth every penny, well, other peoples pennies. I also like Republic.

WHAT DO YOU DO AT COLLEGE?

Law, Sociology and Graphic Communication.

WHY IS IT YOU LIKE ABOUT GRAPHICS?

I can get in my own, personal zone. Where as in other lessons I feel I have to talk to people where as in Graphics, I can tell people to go away and they'll be fine with that.

68th Golden Globe Awards

Apologies for the late posts it's just been busy busy busy with my art finals and university interviews!

Hands down, putting it out there now, I think that January Jones was the best dressed there... I really do. Versace really owned the red carpet with Januarys stunning dress and Angelina Jolie's very talked about emerald gown - which is perfect for her complexion, actually for the both of them!

For me Sandra Bullock was the prettiest, I loved her hair and her Jenny Packham dress. It reminds me of one I bought from topshop a while back, from that embroidery capsule.

Heidi Klum nailed it. She really did, enough to make any lady feel over dressed - the power of Marc Jacobs.

Was it just me who thought Christina Aguilera has actually morphed into her perfume bottle?? Sorry Zuhair Murad.

I will always love Drew Barrymores 66th GG dress, that hair!

ART FINALS

So I've been on the computer for too many hours now, creating my graphics final piece for next week in order for it to be sent off online so it's printing in time before the deadline (this Friday) it's almost there, with any luck my teacher will approve and I can then start revising for my General Studies exam which I haven't touched yet (the exams tomorrow)

I'm creating my very own magazine for Graphics, it's 20 pages long and features some of my friends work, my photography and illustrations. I'm looking into publishing it on issuu but it's so hard to work the files! (anyone who knows who to do this please would they tutor me!!)

Whilst creating the pages I cannot stop listening to the Mugler Gaga remix, it's amazing. It really reminds me of tune you would hear in an underground cyber rave, or in fact playing in Cyber dog. I really can't get over it! The pulling away of latex on the skin is so surreal it's really inspiring me for my next Graphics project that starts next week... (its never ending!)

Marc Jacobs has really set my SS for this year, I think he nailed the 70's. Heidi Klum really shone out at the Golden Globes because it was so understated compared to everyone Else's. However I am slightly predicting a Gothic vibe for AW which is so good I love a bit of goth. Is it FW already! It's STILL winter I don't need to be seeking out what I'm going to hide away from the rain already. Hurry up summer already!

Christian Louboutin's

When a friend gets a new pair of heels, a very nice pair of heels at that, you're happy for her (or he) but you can't but help want to have that experience for yourself, even if you already have enough heels to last until the new year. When I was employed, I spent my wages all on heels but now I just crave more, and what I really need are flats! It's snowing for heavens sake! I have now decided before I buy any more heels, unless I am forced to, I have to save up and buy these...

Just think how dainty they would look! They remind me of a Manolo for looking so lite but yet so feirce as a Loub. I'm so happy I've found these, it's so strange as I was watching the Devil wears Prada and at the start as the other workers get ready for work in contrast to how Andy gets ready, theres a pair of shoes just like these, paired with a pair of black trousers that I just thought wow, I would never of thought of that together, it looks amazing.

They're £375 from netaporter, I would have to get the 36.5 as they run larger in size and are also 120mm which is 5 inches, perfect! - it's dilemmas like these that make you consider spending the £200 I'm saving

for Glasto next year...

High Hair

I've recently been styling my hair into a bun for the past few months, partly because it's easier and I'm in the middle of growing my hair super long, I'm aiming to look like LC Hills. I was just wondering whether I could do this with it?

Background

Yay my first ever blog background! and no it's not Jonathan...

I searched everything from vintage wallpaper to florals until I resorted to b&q and found this cityscape background by 'British Design Talent' you can purchase it here.

It's so cute, I love any illustration with black line. Lulu Guinness even picked out this wallpaper for her daughters!
