Computer posture

I like to think when I'm on the laptop reading/researching/stalking my posture and appearance are quite put together.

I couldn't really care if my mouth falls half open as I stare into a screen zombie-fied, my family is used to it. However today has been one of my lazy days, in my Pucci jumper, bed-head hair and only a flick or two of eye-liner, this is how I like to spend my days off. I feel like I've made the effort that day if I've worn eye-liner, nothing else, not even mascara. A spitz of perfume, Gucci Guilty at the moment, makes me feel cheery too.

So yeah, today I felt good. I sat through an hour and a bit listening to a podcast, which was great, and wondered if I resembled any of the following:

I didn't:

Although not too bad, you can see the scab on my chin has healed-ish shouldn't of picked it so much, I just wonder what other people look like, not so much what they're doing, whilst on the computer.

Joseph Gilgun

Joe Gilgun seems that sort of man whos both charming and a bit rough you could still take home to meet your parents. Or in a nutshell, a classic Northern lad. Joe is from Chorley, Lancashire and went to Oldham Theatre workshop, not to far from me. Hes worked on TV soaps such as Corrie (Coronation Street, in Greater Manchester based on Salford) and Emmerdale (set in Yorkshire, Corries better). If you want to see some of his recent stuff you can find him on Misfits and in This Is England.

Joe has dyslexia and ADHD which according to Wikipedia (a good source but not reliable) "biggest pain of [his] life." He studied art and a fashion degree before becoming a plasterer, then returning to acting. Hes only 27. Its clear Joe loves acting but its interesting to note that art and plastering (discovery and manual labour) are two main areas found in fashion design, which he studied but found too academic.

I can't help but wonder, without the essay writing bollocks, what Joe would of created? Hopefully, when he has a spare minute, its something he could have a stab at in the future? A capsule perhaps? Menswear the ladies could wear too? It'd sell and I know a lot of my friends who would buy it too. I'd wear one of his jumpers all day.

Speaking of jumpers, I bought a lovely jumper from an Afflecks Palace pop up shop in Albert Square, Manchester, yesterday. Its Pucci. £20. Nice one Afflecks.

I love this background information on such a character because he is truly that, a character. Effortlessly charismatic, down to earth and beautifully handsome. I love people who are constantly searching and experiencing things they're genuinely interested in.We can expect lots of great things from Joe and you know he'll be enjoying it at every turn.

This Is England '88, starts tonight on channel 4, 10pm.

Manchester

I've completed my first term at LCF! Sadly both Brenda Polan and Annie Davies are leaving us, which I'm gutted about :-( however I'm already looking forward to term 2 and finding a trend to write about for my Christmas project, so tell me what you're all into at the moment @sammehxo!

Pre-presentation. Don't ask.
Why do I look so small! This was the big presentation I was dreading but it was alright.
I've had this scab on my chin for about a month.
Its too cold outside to venture anywhere too far and its too dark after 4pm to want to go out anywhere so instead i've took the time to finally read all my magazines and books I've collected over this term. However I fear if I sit in this room any longer I'm going to surface a different person. I don't know if experimenting with outfits, make up and hair should be this healthy.

1993's child.
I blame this skirt and my love for the Smiths.
I've also had the chance to get back into Pride and Prejudice. I had a good sob whilst watching it, over how Mr Darcy isn't real and how nice Mr Bingley is. I comforted myself with the thoughts of my own wedding at Pemberly, I mean Lyme Park. The same Lyme Park I nearly rolled into that water bit when my family and I went to visit it, it's literally 20 minutes away from my house, who'd of known!

Lyme Park (Pemberly!!!!)

I've also been studying.

MEADHAM KIRCHHOFF / SS12

Studying fashion journalism not only allows me to be up-to-date on pretty much everything, its a requirment, other than shorthand (grr) my studying consists of the shows. The course doesn't just confine us to fashion, theres lifestyle and I'm determined to infuse music in there somewhere!!

I really like this collection featured on Rookiemag.com. Pastel make up, get in. The collection was inspired by lots of cute things you can read about here. As soon as you wake up, go to make a decision or find your self wondering, just ask yourself, what would Courtney Love do?

For my essays I had to look through millions of books to reference. Which lead to many trips to the new CSM and LCFs library to rummage for books, resulting in several heavy bags and many hefty tube journeys. I'm not complaining, I love libraries :-)

I spotted this image and really fell in love with it. I want to be her.

Whilst looking at good things to post on my tumblr I realised how cool Nancy actually was. I love this outfit! Note to self: V neck jumper/Sid Vicious bf...

I also realised my desire to own 10 things I hate about you so I can watch it on repeat.

And my idolisation of Chloë Sevigny. Since 2008, I was glued to her style section in ELLE which I always read in PSHCE class, whatever that was. I also used to read Jackie Collins in that class too and didn't get why my teacher exclaimed when he had a nosy at what I was reading... it didn't take long to realise why.

Oh Winona.

I need to get out of these four walls!

2 days Manchester!

Term 1

London has worn me out although I feel as if now is the time I can finally get to see London. LCF first term final deadlines are Thursday and I feel sick to my stomach at the thought of opening up Word. However thanks to post it notes I'm not bashing it out without proper research - thats good - the sick feeling is not.

Heres some photos of me, bored, in my room taking a break from the mountain of work and shorthand revision:

I'm really enjoying London. I've met lots of lovely people and seemed to of gotten the hang of the London walk-ish, still got a bit of a Northern sway, obv. I've learnt to talk clearly so people can understand my Mancunian mumble although no promises for when I'm tired.

I just really miss this:

 And this:

And doing this:

However I've tired these: (not a fan)

Met him:

Been here at fashion week:

And nearly completed my first term at uni, in London, at Lcf.

17 days till I come home.

London vs my hometown, Manchester, also known as, the best city in the UK.

It's the Madcap book signing in Manchester today and unfortunately, I can't be there. The queue is apparently curling around the Arndale and all I can do is sit in my flat and moan. Moan because it took me from the other end of Oxford Street to find HMV for the London book signing. Moan because the nasty bouncers were mean, pushy and mean. Moan because I'm living in the capital and I can't get one lousy photograph. But most of all, wheres the painting? Is HMV so corporate they don't want a bit of acrylic here and there? No? Not even a few splashes of watercolours?

I've tweeted Noel with my concerns. It went a little something like this 'Dear @noelfielding11 I'm from Manchester and cant make tomorrow but I went to the one in London and it was shit. Please re-do with paints x'

I didn't get a reply. It's ok. I still love Noel and Dave.

I'm going to head over to Maison Bertaux, hopefully have chat with Tania and muffle my angsty hmv rage with proper tea and apple cinnamon pie.

The day I always knew would come.

The day I met Noel Fielding was a warm day in London. Apart from heading to all 2 other hmv stores on Oxford St, trying to break into Selfridges and then finally stalking a blonde bobbing head boy in hope he to was on his way to obtain the awaiting wristbands and actually headed to the correct hmv store.

The Scribblings Of A Madcap Shambleton is a lovely new book of Noels art he and Dave Brown created together. It's a beautiful book. Featuring dashing images Tania Wade, Hooligan Art Dealer, owner of Maison Bertaux the oldest patisserie in London, a must go for tea and cakes. Mmm.

Although meeting my dream man and Davey boy I was pretty disappointed with the treatment I endured just to see these pretty faces. You could say all was forgiven with Noels sparkly green jumper (I need that jumper) but the brandishing bouncers, lack of organisation (of hmv) and communication (also hmv) was one that made me dislike hmv and their money grabbing ways a little bit more. As if they're not making enough money compared to places like Vinyl Exchange, where buying music was an adventure, not strategically subversive cons.

Psychedelic Dreams of the Jelly Fox was Noels sole art exhibit at Maison Bertaux which is featured in the book. You can read about my travels to the exhibit in a past post: here.

Whatever. Bouncers aside it was really nice to meet these two finally. I always said I would meet Noel. Would of loved a chat and a photo and a peck on the cheek (to far?) but what can you do.

In honour of hmv: NO PHOTOS

Waiting for Camden

This week has been a mix of excitement, nervousness and boredom. I can't wait to start university and move to Tufnell Park, the only painful thing about that is the not seeing my family everyday and thats all it is, painful. I'll be fine I know I will, I have Skype, my mum emails me about 10 times a day anyway and I'm really looking forward to sharing the photographs.

Because I've been organising/sleeping/not sleeping till 4am/watching Ab Fab I've just been a window shopper looking in on fellow movers to London/university lives while I'm at home doing nothing, not even watching CSI, wanting to be at uni, in London but at the same time wanting to stay at home in Manchester knowing if I did or I did go to university and come home, I'd regret it for the rest of my life and no art foundation can solve that.

Growing up sucks lemons.

Style Report - Leeds fest 2011

If there was one top trend of the weekend that was teeny tiny denim cut offs. I'm not talking Kate Moss, I'm talking the more arse cheek the better so they thought, rain or sunshine. The constant pour down allowed us to opt for comfort and warmth (from the waist up-wards it would seem) with Granddad jumpers being the common choice, in navy greens, gordy patterns and obviously oversized. Studded and sequined bumbags where the go to accessory, closely following a trusty waterproof.
Scruffy buns saved the day after mid-day showers which were later unravelled creating effortless, sun dried, dry shampooed, mermaid hair. Hunter wellies still reigned paired with a variety of knee high socks, pink and green where a favourite.

Leeds festival 2011 was a 50/50 mix of comfort and Topshop. It was the year men ruled with rugged jeans, head scarfs, band ts and those jumpers, the ones us girls steal because lets face it, those denims are draughty. Think the hairy man, the indie man, the clean man, the dapper man (in Burberry I might add) and the stoner men (not in Burberry but SoulCal, probs) we had them all and they had their own style. Not a dead seagull Hollister hero or I work at Jack Wills bow down and swoon in sight.

Beady eye allowed all males to feel like Liam Gallagher for a set unfortunately for the lasses who had to deal with out spurts of bravado, I kinda enjoyed it. Skinnies and button ups flooded the Horrors although there were a mix of hoodies, hats and trainers. Shocking. I figured it was the last night and everything else owned was wet, lost or muddy.
Pulp being the wildest night, thus being the shortest paragraph. Though, a sea of amazed fans, young and old, singing their hearts out to Common people adorned in elbow patched cardigans and vintage tweed jackets purchased from the Oxfam tent during the day.
It was good to see the males taking control of their wardrobe. After all there really is no excuse when Topman continues to throw up the best of iconic bandwear attire. I'm not complaining. As for the girls, opening your tent to provent suffocation, a few hours after you found it, kicked off your wellies and slept flat out, seeing Topshop bitches head-to-toe in vintage finds, boy-from-next-tent jumpers and well, Topshop just isn't want you need to see. Now remember what I'm about to tell you, my friends, as an experienced festival goer, this is otherwise known as, shot time. After which I'd eat something then think slut granny, sex hair chic and you're half way there.

Miles Kane

You might recognise Miles Kane from the Rascals and Last Shadow Puppets, lip locking times with Aggy Deyn and around about town with Arctic Monkeys and part duo of the Last Shadow Puppets, Alex Turner. Kane is now solo and shouldn't be categorised as a Liam Gallagher sort, just by the hair, before listening to his music, hes one of a kind. Hes one of the best guitarists of today, just watch him go.

The Rascals - Freakbeat Phantom

The Last Shadow Puppets - Standing Next to Me
2 songs I listened to over and over back in 08!

With influences of the Beatles, a given, and the legendary Nick Cave, I was greatly surprised of the performance Kane gave, solo, at Leeds festival this year. His stage presence is massive you can tell hes into everything he does even the crowd, every time. From the endearing smile after each verse to the charismatic flick of the arm after a belt on the guitar, hes got it. What ever it is, it's what we've needed.

Miles Kane - Inhaler

I'd give Rearrange a watch and a listen, the video is so good Kane seamlessly bobs along as if hes actually been taken out of the 60's but better dressed with a decent haircut.

Miles Kane - Rearrange

One of my favourite covers at the moment:
Miles Kane - A Girl Like You

Let me know what you think of him, were you already a fan? Want to see him live? Do it!

Leeds Fest '11!

If I was to write an account, as so, about my time at Leeds Festival for the second consecutive time it would go a little something like this.

Morning starts with Apple, Raspberry and Cherry Sourz shots and ends with me chundering behind my tent whilst the neighbouring campers cheer me along. By the time I've been patted down for hidden alcohol, I've passed through the turnstiles into the main arena it all goes a little fuzzy after the revealing of the hidden beverages from my jumper, a skill I'm proud of. But its not all about voming and drinking, oh no. Once you've written in liquid eyeliner on crisp packets or spare arms 'the who to go to band and stage' list, in order, the world/field is your oyster.

From moshing pitting to the Offspring to eyeing up the bassist in Tribes, its always about the music. This years highlights for me, apart from seeing my all time favourite band in the whole wide world, the Offspring, who in fact once finished their set put down their instruments no bye no nothing, perhaps the most amazing ending I've ever witnessed, Madness, Pulp and what I can recollect of the Strokes we're all bands I'm so appreciative to of seen. Jarvis spoke to you as if you'd known each other for years and Madness, the only time its acceptable to dance with arms cocked either side, pint in hand. If you saw Seasick Steve, the streaker, was in fact a band member, from Madness. Only at Leeds. As I said before, the Strokes I'm sure they were pretty good. Seeing 2manydjs because of mistaking the tent for Pete Doherty was a very good find, I'd go see them again.

Leeds never failed to disappoint even if my tweet to Matt Lewis never got a reply though I'm almost certain hes to blame for opening my tent, whilst we were all sleeping, on the last night. Shy boy :-)

Bombay Bicycle Club, Friendly Fires, Seasick Steve, Tribes, Madness, Muse, The Offspring, 2manydjs, The Horrors, Beady Eye, The Pete Box, Two Door Cinema Club, Panic! At the Disco, Warpaint, Chapel Club, Ed Sheeran, White Lies, Miles Kane, Frankie and the Heartstrings, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Deftones,  Pulp, Strokes, Simian Mobile Disco, The Naked and Famous, Little Comets, Johnny Flynn.

Rocky Horror

It's that time of year again, well maybe 2 months in advance, where I'm dusting off my Rocky Horror Picture Show DVD and fluffing my (faux) black coat. It's Winter and you know it. I've spent all day wrapped up in my blankets, layered in what can only be described as a checked leopard summertime lounge in school girl socks tucked in round the ankles 'youth' style.

Autumn/Winter 2011 Collage of images I'm constantly inspired by:

Allison Reynolds, Breakfast Club, Draco Malfoy and his awesome tailoring, Lady Gaga, Chanel AW09 Ad Campaign, Liza Minnelli, Madonna, Claire and John Bender - I like to think they got married, Rory Culkin, Tim Curry as Frank'n'Furter, Noel Fielding as Vlad the Impaler, Vince Noir and Howard Moon - The Mighty Boosh, Zombie Boy for Mugler, Dave Grohl in Nirvana, Debbie Harry for Splash magazine, Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Madonna, Courtney Love.
Speaking of youth, quick note to the greedy looters who tried to drag the Mancunian name through the dirt. Nice try, rebels without a cause. Everybody out last night was just a dirty thief and they know it. Anyway, Frank'n'Furter is calling...

Image 4 of ASOS Jumper With Lace CollarImage 1 of ASOS Jumper With Lace Collar

ASOS Jumper with Collar - How cute! I love it in black, theres a green one also. I think styled right the black, Wednesday Adams look wouldn't be so harsh. It would be a great update of the school uniform trend replacing the Varsity jackets of this Summer (I didn't even wear mine much *sadface*.) Jumpers are an instant way to look beatnik. Jumper? Check. Nerdy glasses? Check. Satchel, books and note pad for Political sonnets? Check, check and check.

PULP's Jarvis Cocker
These Aldgate Chelsea boots and Underground Winkle Pickers, both from Topshop, are two styles I'm drawn to this season. The Chelsea boots are very Magenta and I really want those Winkle Pickers, the buckles are so Noel Fielding/Captain Hook two hero's of mine!

What do we think of the turban? I'm quite fond of them, never bought one - yet. They add a different dimension to head gear, its the alternative headscarf! If the broach falls off this Topshop turban you could always attach more black feathers, wear it plain without embellishments or stick something retro on there like a broken pendent you've been holding onto. Check me going all DIY.

I think the stirrup has never been more acceptable to wear than now. They add a detail to leggings which say 'this is the look' rather than 'yes I did get dressed in the dark this morning'. Haven't you just seen these maxi sheer skirts everywhere!

Layering very shiny costume jewellery always brightens up grey mornings. Go for bold, detailed pieces like rings or earrings. Ask yourself, would would Frank'n'Furter do?

Beauty glitter nails

Nail art is something I'm pretty good at, in its simplest forms such as diagonal lines and glitter. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed painting my nails, dropping glitter all over my bed and the smell...

Barry M Nail Paints Peach Melba         Barry M Nail Paints Black

I used my sisters barrym Peach Melba and some black polish I found around the house as the two main paints. The base coat is Sally Hansens hard as nails which I also used to sprinkle the glitter on to, a pot from Claires Accessories left over from Glastonbury.

Got back into my tea thing again. Green tea in Islington for a hangover, tea in general at home and Chai in Nexus, Northern Quarter. tea tea tea tea!

Happy Birthday Mr Warhol

Happy Birthday to the king of Bohemia, Andy Warhol.

File:Warhol-Campbell Soup-1-screenprint-1968.jpg

All artists create work in order for it to be sold so they can continue painting and secondly, eat. With so much pressure thrusted upon art students even at GCSE level, to create something new and originial, many a time most sit there drawn blank in front of a canvas, covered in graffite or worse, heaving at the smell of turps.

Warhol creates his art for 'something to do' which - believe it or not - is how all art is created by artits as its their something. The expectation of something 'new' is just an infection which is spread through the majority who demand new, fast material on a regular basis. If you enjoy what you do, if it gives you something to do and if it ultimitley motivates you, I don't see why we have to feel pressured all the time to create some new master piece every time we want to 'do' something.

Like blogging for example.

MM6 Maison Martin Margiela x Opening Ceremony

pop_42933_0205.jpgpop_42828_0.jpgpop_42825_0244.jpgpop_42831_0001.jpg
Not yet have I come across a collection, one yet marked 'affordable', that I've thought I need this in my life, all of it!

Maison Martin Margiela for Opening Ceremony has created a '3 in 1' capsule of 20 pieces, each made to be reworked, in 3 different ways, to suit you and your wardrobe. I'm not sure if its just the clothes I'm obsessing over or that it goes so well with that 'me' hair?

The collection is ready and waiting to be snapped up by all you lovies with jobs get on it now: OCxMMM

MMM x OC has a easy going monochrome pallet where shades of grey, neutral browns and fierce red appear. The silhouettes are screaming sixties but with dipping v necks throughout and sexy cut outs slicing windows of skin occasionally, it's a collection made for practicality and nights out, rather dinner parties. Who has dinner parties?

It's casual but not in the New Yorker way. Its the type of gear I could wear around Manchester and feel a constant rush of pride when telling people It's Mar-giela not Zara. Leathers are matte, denims are stressed and the Knit wear is breathable. I'd really suggest these pieces for our unpredictable weather at the moment.

The mini skirt/trouser combo is something I could really get in to. Anything that hides or distracts the hips a little more is fine with me.The hair on the other hand, well lets just say I'm looking at my back combing brush with a little more respect now I know its capability's.

Booking in honey tones for winter now........ wheres my tan?

Eddy Enninful

Remember this guy? 'Uhm' Of course you do. Now a fabulous Fashion and Style Director at W magazine, his latest jobby has been this lovely - 'Scene on the Street' in NY, for W, August '11. Shot by Alasdair McLellan.

Usually two girls perched on a street corner in extremely detailed clothes, mad hair and clashing prints would look a little odd. But somehow, I'm all over it. I'm like hello, I like your hair with that dress. Those overly embellished heels are calling my name and the whole kleptomania I'll put fur with graphic print thing is really attracting me. Great styling all I can say. It works! For me I think it's the hair that balances it out. Lindsey Wixson & Daphne Groeneveld are just obviously to cool, well dressed, skater chicks.

Where as here there perfectly fit to take home and show your mum. If they weren't so pretty you'd actually think they were a: boys and b: clearly offspring of some powerful sugar daddy. Nice one Edward.

It's August, therefore it's September.

I'm working on something thats keeping me busy at the moment. But it's been frustrating me because I'm not entirely sure where it's going to go or what I'm going to do with it yet!

In other news. September issues are flying through my door and hitting magmas shelves and I love it. I remember last year coming out of WHSmith with a STACK. They're heavy don't let them kid you.
Vogue features a definitive guide, as always, to how to wear this seasons trends such as tartan and fetish (I've no idea either) including a DVD version of this seasons trends, interesting! If the idea of a DVD doesn't sell you there's a feature on David Bailey and his new BBC Drama and a profile on John Galliano. Whatever floats your boat.

This issue of ELLE has been my personal favourite all year. I'm really loving Jenny Dickinson's edit and I love Lorraine Candy always, theres just something about this upcoming season I can really relate to that I think ELLE has hit on it's head. I was slightly worried about the September issues as this season is more important than any other year. It will shape my wardrobe and knowledge for the start of University. I really love everything about this season and thats all because its about being an individual. What you wear goes. What someone else wears, you can ask where they found it! We're all into are own little worlds. The adjective eclectic is one we can all embrace this season.

I love I bet you look good on the dancefloor by Arctic Monkeys because it reminds me of my 12 year old self and friends all creating Piczo websites which meant a new layout/theme everyday. A 30 day trail of Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop were the best 30 days of the year. I'd just got back from camp and a mate had send me a link to this, around about the time the Monkeys from Sheffers were becoming acknowledged. Don't believe the hype.

Matthew Lewis

Hello blogger, it's been awhile huh.

So it was my birthday and the only real highlight besides owning ID was Matthew Lewis wishing me happy birthday -via twitter but so what. That is the modern form of communication now a days, get with it. No one calls anymore...

So yes maybe I'm starting to live under the impression running into Matt may happen ONE DAY and because of this one magical moment, via twitter, which he replied under 10 minutes WHILST being in Australia, just makes me believe in fate a bit more. We're both Cancerians too, I don't know if I can deal with another messy Cancerian relationship because they are exactly that messy and emotional. Almost impossible to shake away from, but lets step back a little shall we? Lets see the transformations every gossip channel and magazine is ushering about.

Ah Neville, who knew what would become of you in both Harry Potter and puberty? Cute as sin. I always liked Neville in the Potter films especially when he threatens to fight Harry, such a cutie! To be really honest though, I fancied him when he looked like this. I'm in to the hair you see. The 70s sort of bowl cut hair do, flared pants and a Yorkshire accent...

Past two seasons us ladies got lucky with such a great era for fashion, the 70s, however a little more of the above for the males would be much appreciated. What isn't there to like? Doesn't the high waisted  flared, long hairedness ooze enough Night Fever for you?

More this:
Less this:
However, what we do have, is this:

A 6 foot tall, dapper bloke from Leeds; pocket watch included. Matts hair sweeped over matching the technical tailoring of his suits really gives him a new edge, something out of the '30s. When he, Tom, Dan and Rupert are all together, it's like hes been transported from the past. His immense stature, jawline and smirk play their part however this smart, put together look is something I'm very fond of. I think menswear has lost a lot of it's details. Made into more simple outfits e.g the suit.. typically pant, jacket and shirt. The depth put together down to the pocket scarf to the teeny tie stud makes this style absolutely timeless. Making Matt traditionally gorgeous = global appeal.

Zac Efron, in Calvin Klein Collection. Robert Pattinson, in Gucci.

At the Golden Globes these two were my favourite suits on the carpet. Thats why I've sourced back to them because I just love this Bowie style that I think would really do justice to Matts height and new found stubble.

Just as I gave up

looking for body glitter where I had searched Boots, Bodycare, Bodyshop, Morrisons, ASDA, Tesco, you name it, I went there. Nothing.

I was after some really junior body gel glitter, the type that took about half an hour to set and was always freezing. Instead I substituted with shimmer sprays, loose glitter tubs and glitter hairspray. Please don't be alarmed, it was for Glastonbury. Post Glasto, I've been using Lush's shimmy shimmy bar, which they really need to do a perfume in because it smells like fairies.

Mr Lagerfeld must of got my letter, not really calm down, of how the lack of body glitter in the world has made me sad he soon hopped to and the genius has created not one but two pots of Chanel body glitter! They both smell different but thats not the point, theres glitter involved! I can't wait to go look at but not touch at them in Selfridges.

If I had no concept of reality I'd say add this to your festival must haves because they're to die for but I won't so buy one and play dress up.

DO NOT TAKE THESE INTO MUDDY FIELDS
because if you do and I'm there then well... festivals do say don't bring valuables.. I am the glitter monster.
